The Music Blog of the Infonistacrat!

AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Posted by Infonistacrat on Monday, June 29th, 2009

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

IT CAME FROM THE 90′S, UPDATE EDITION!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Today’s list is my update of one of my favorite blog series called “It Came From The Nineties” over at Can You See The Sunset On The South Side. The author of this blog, which, by the way, if one of my favorite reads, has a pretty good eye for talent, and usually posts outstanding stuff. A month ago, I did a 3 day series on what I thought was the best of…if you get a chance, I still recommend going over and visiting his blog.

Of today’s list, maybe the song that means the most to me is The Nixons’ Sister. It was a moderate hit in 1995, but the words really hit me pretty hard. In 1995, the relationship I was in had fallen apart, due to the distance between us…I was in Chicago, and she was in California. We were both going through pretty nasty divorces, and though we loved each other pretty dearly, the stress just tore us apart, and we went months without speaking to each other. I heard this song, and the words just kind of shot through me, and I realized that I was making a mistake I would never recover from by letter her go. I mailed her a copy of the song, and fortunately, she felt the same way. A few months later, with both our divorces complete, she moved to Chicago. A year later, we were married, and this December, it will be 12 great years. Never has a song made such a difference in my life.

  1. Sugar – If I Can’t Change Your Mind
  2. The Connells – Slackjawed
  3. Better Than Ezra – Good
  4. Frente – Labor Of Love
  5. The Flaming Lips – She Don’t Use Jelly
  6. Cold Water Flat – Magnetic North Pole
  7. Feeder – High
  8. Eels – Novacaine For The Soul
  9. Beck – Devils Haircut
  10. The Nixons – Sister

    The 90s were a pretty good time on the radio. Few of these songs make me say “Wow!” but none of them make me change the station. Sugar sounds a lot like Jacob’s Trouble. The two songs I really like from this list are Novocaine for the Soul and Sister.

    I forgot how much I used to love Feeder. A totally underrated British band in my opinion. I remember seeing them at Wembley Arena supporting the Chili Peppers release of Californication…..they blew me away. Thanks for kick starting my old brain, cheers!

    Nice! Starting up the mix now. Thanks for NOT doing an 80’s mix, as this is a musical time period I’d rather avoid. The story accompanying the Nixons tune was really touching. All the best to you and the misses….I’m looking very much to hearing it. :)

    @Time Tracker:

    Thanks….I still hold the 80’s near and dear to my heart, but I understand that not everyone does. Personally, the years from 1986 to 1995 we beyond brutal for me. Two brutal divorces that let me pretty much broken, and way older than my age of 32 in 1995. That all changed when I met my wife…having her in my life was like walking into a cool, crisp morning, taking a deep breath, and suddenly feeling awake, alive and vital. So, yeah, at least that part of my life is all good!

    @Robert Lindsey:

    The 90’s were a great time for radio, if you were lucky enough to have a really good alternative music station nearby. I had Q101 in Chicago, still the best station I’ve ever heard. So far, it’s the only station that I will put my iPod down to listen to whenever I’m in Chicago. In the 90’s, it was just one completely badass station.

    I love 90’s Alternative.

    Can I request… Could you post Possum Dixon’s Holding Lenny’s Song & Fluorescein’s Cathy’s On Crank?

    Thanks
