MY WEEK OF AWESOME POST PUNK, DAY 2
Day two of my week of great post punk extravaganza. Some people will question the inclusion of U2, I know, but they actually did start of life as a post punk band, before they turned into what ever it is they are today. I’m not saying that I don’t like em, it’s just they strayed a LOT from their early days.
For the hard core student of music history of the 70’s and 80’s, you’ll also wonder why I put Theoretical Girls here. Even though they are from the late 70’s New York “no wave” movement. But since no wave did evolve from punk, in my mind at least its all post punk music. Anyway, I am off to work…today is terrible Tuesday! Ten hours of conference call! Hooray for me!
- U2 – An Cat Dubh
- Kate Bush – Leave It Open
- Echo & The Bunnymen – Turquoise Days
- The Jam – In The City
- Joy Division – Wilderness
- Orange Juice – Falling and Laughing
- Josef K – Sense Of Guilt
- The Slits – Instant Hits
- Theoretical Girls – No More Sex
- Pixies – Ed Is Dead

“Since no wave did evolve from punk” – I thought Malcom McLaren (Bow Wow Wow and Sex Pistols) loosely coined the term in the late 70s to open “pun” to a broader audience.

@Semper Gumby:
I’ve honestly never heard that before. I know it it was centered around New York’s art school scene. But I’ve never heard the origination of the term before. Thanks!
