Alright, here we go, another Monday. I have no clue how your weekends went, but for me, I was pretty damn fine. One of the best I’ve had in months. My wife and I went to an art fair in Flint. Yes, they have art in Flint, Michigan. And in fact, that was the biggest surprise of them all. Being a pretty big art geek, I was surprised that the Flint Institute of Art had an rather large showing of M. C. Escher work there. I totally would never have thought that would be in Flint, so it was pretty cool to see all of his most famous works, plus some I had never seen before. All I can say is that Escher was one hell of a talented dude with pencil and paper.
So, as some of you can probably tell, the title of todays post, and the post itself, was inspired by Simon Reynolds’ Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-84, a great book that pretty much sums up the history of post punk and new wave. If you can’t but it, go to the library and check it out, or just go to a book store and sit and read it. It’s maybe the single greatest book on music I’ve ever run my eyeballs across. All the bands I’ve posted today are all referenced in the book. All great stuff…certainly worthy of putting on an iPod! Enjoy!

Found your blog ’cause I did a review of Rip it Up and was looking for other blogs that have covered it. Not very many of us.

@Robert Lindsey:
Rip it up is a great book…a must read for people who love the music from the mid-70’s through the mid-80’s. If you like punk, post punk or new wave, it’s a book not to be missed. I discovered more music from that book than any other place!
