The Music Blog of the Infonistacrat!

AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Posted by Infonistacrat on Monday, June 29th, 2009

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

JOHN PEEL’S FESTIVE FIFTY FROM 1991, DAY 1

Posted by Infonistacrat on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

First, the site is back up an functioning fine. And I am in Pittsburgh, or rather an hours drive east of Pittsburgh, functioning almost as well. I landed last night at 10, and then had that drive here, and then I had to decompress a little. Add to that I was up at 6:30 am, and I’m kind of tired. How did I ever stay out drinking until 4 am and then turn around and go to work back in the day?

On the to music. Just so you all know…when I have a hugely busy week like this one, I tend to do posts that are kind of canned, or pre-done, for me. I generally stay away from them, unless they are something I totally dig, or, like this week, I’m traveling. Today’s list is both.

Of all the Festive Fifty’s John Peel did, this probably is my favorite. That takes nothing away from any other year…they were all great. But this one in particular mirrors what was happening in music. There are still some 80s legend’s here…Pixies, Billy Bragg, My Bloody Valentine, The Fall, but this list was dominated by the next was of alternative…Nirvana, PJ Harvey, and, I’m happy to say…Babes In Toyland. Babes being one of my favorite bands of the 90’s. You Brits…such amazing tastes in music. Enjoy!

  1. Bongwater – Nick Cave Dolls
  2. Mercury Rev – Car Wash Hair
  3. Nirvana – Breed
  4. Pixies – Bird Dream Of The Olympus Mons
  5. Pixies – Motorway To Roswell
  6. The Field Mice – Missing The Moon
  7. Th’ Faith Healers – Gorgeous Blue Flower In My Gard
  8. The Fall – So What About It-
  9. Babes In Toyland – Ripe
  10. The Fall – The Mixer
  11. Electronic – Get the Message
  12. Babes In Toyland – Primus (To Mother)
  13. Curve – No Escape From Heaven
  14. My Bloody Valentine – To Here Knows When
  15. Teenage Fanclub – Like A Virgin
  16. The Fall – The War Against Intelligence
  17. Pavement – Summer Babe

    @Ed:

I have a huge love for all things John Peel. I wish I could have actually listened to all these great shows live! He had such a talent for spotting great bands, and the world of punk, post punk, new wave and alternative music owes him a huge debt.

By the way, I really like your blog! Very nicely done!
