10 GREAT SONGS FOR A HOLIDAY WEEKEND, PART 2
Here in the states, today is Memorial day, which to a lot of people means a day off of work, or some great sales on stuff they don’t really need. Or maybe it’s a day to have some BBQ or a picnic with family. I think to most people, it’s just another holiday to sit and do nothing. Oh, sure, if you happen to catch the news, or go to a ball game, you’re sure to be reminded of the real meaning of the day.
As many of you know, I was a sailor in the Navy. Fewer of you still probably know I was also in the Army. Anyway, today is a pretty special day for me. I sit, and raise a toast to all the friends I served with. And I think about the fact that in every way the US has fought, my family has been there. Mostly, I think about how I wished that governments would figure out how to settle things so that sending young boys off in a uniform wasn’t necessary.
But today, no matter how you feel about war, or the causes of it, or the need for it, separate that from all the boys who answered that call. No matter what country your from, remember all the young men and women who decided that there was something bigger than themselves worth fighting, and for some, dying for. Today, I do not celebrate the governments and the politicians who willingly send those boys to fight. I don’t celebrate the wars that have been fought. I celebrate the fact that throughout the ages, there have been men willing to answer that call. It’s the men we honor today. Enjoy!

*Thank you* for your service to our country. I salute you, sir!
I also salute my Dad who served in the Navy during WWII, my husband who put in 8 years in the Air Force during the Vietnam era, my estranged son-in-law who served 5 years in the Air Force, a part of that in Afghanistan, my office mate (female) who put 17 years into the Army and suffers a back injury and hearing loss because of it, my VP who spent 20 years in the Air Force.
To all the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect clueless ones who do nothing but complain about how bad it is here, may you and your families be blessed abundantly for the sacrifices you’ve made. You have my utmost respect and my undying gratitude.
