AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Posted by Infonistacrat on Monday, June 29th, 2009

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

JOHN PEEL FESTIVE FIFTY, 1986, DAY 1

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I was digging through iTunes John Peel stuff the other day, and came across the John Peel Festive Fifty from 1986, and decided to give it a play. I’ve professed my love for the John Peel show in the past, and I’ll do it again. What can I say, I’m a huge Anglophile. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Festive Fifty, Wikipedia has this:

The Festive Fifty was originally an annual list of the year’s fifty (though the exact figure varied above and below this number) best songs compiled at the end of the year and voted for by listeners to John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 show. It was usually dominated by indie and rock songs which did not fully represent the diversity of music played by Peel but rather the majority opinion among his listeners.

The great thing about these songs is that you hear little bits of John Peel commenting here and there on the song, and on listeners through the UK. It’s a great piece of radio history as well as musical history. So this weekend, I bring you 1986’s Festive Fifty. Enjoy!

    @Mick:

    That makes two of us! :-) My daughter graduates from college next week…that will do wonders for making one feel really old!

    I don’t think that we were too old to have daughters going to college :)

    I just found out about a new website that helps musicians, artists, writers etc. to sell their work online without the need to go through record labels, publishing houses and all that stuff… It’s called CybaSumo.com – you sign up for free and they give you a free store on their website to sell your work through. They also offer a software widget that you can put on your myspace or facebook (or blog) to help you sell your work directly to your friends. They just started up this week, it’s probably worth checking out…

    Glenn Campbell’s By the Time I Get to Phoenix by Nick Cave! Never heard this before. Cave breaks your heart while Campbell is just crooning with syrupy strings to create the emotion.

    Robert Lindsey’s last blog post..More From Dawn to Decadence by Barzun

    @Robert Lindsey:

    I had not heard it before either, until last week. Your spot on, it’s Nick at his best, that’s for sure. As soon as I heard it on the radio, I KNEW it belonged on this site!
