This past Sunday night, while watching the glorious 2 hours of Futurama, there was a commercial for one of those cheesy various artist music collection. This one, though, caught my eye in that the tunes were some decent songs from the late 90’s/early 00’s. So I decided to go check it out, and see what was on the album. The collection is called Buzzcuts, and while it won’t go down in history as the definitive guide to post-grunge, it is pretty accurate as to what you would have heard on alternative radio 10 years a go on. Over all, it’s not really that bad.
The Blink-182 song can go..for some reason, I never really cared for them. To me, they aren’t punk, their punks. And there is a huge difference there. And Hoobastank…I’m not really sure 10 years from now, people will be longing to hear Running Away. But even with them included, this collection has a little attitude to it, and believe it or not, I kind of really enjoyed listening to it. There are a lot of songs here I haven’t heard in year, and it was kind of nice to hear em again. Enjoy!
- Blink 182 - I Miss You
- Bush - The Chemicals Between Us
- Counting Crows - Hangin Around
- Fastball - The Way
- Finch - What It Is To Burn
- Hole - Celebrity Skin
- Hoobastank - Running Away
- Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment
- Live - Lakini’s Juice
- Papa Roach - Last Resort
- Puddle Of Mud - Blurry
- Simple Plan - I’d Do Anything
- Stone Temple Pilots - Sour Girl
- Sum 41 - Fat Lip
- Three Doors Down - Kryptonite

Another great list, but definitely lacking. They could have included more obscure yet talented post-grunge like Vibrolux, Soul Coughing, and a great Canadian band called Junkhouse. I often wonder who is responsible for coming up with the “Only Sold On TV” compilations. I think it’s a guy with a dart board.
Have a wonderful day!

These tracks aren’t post punk. They’re pop punk.

Mr. Pendant, you’re right. These are not post punk. I put the wrong title on the post. These are post grunge hits. My apologies for the mistake. Sometimes, I’m a an idiot like that, especially when I’m rushing to post.

Soul Coughing…Ah yes. I still love Super Bon Bon. Of course, they have a lot of other great stuff, but I love the hook on that song. “You gotta take the elevator to the mezzanine. Chump change.” Cleassic word play!

Ha! I was watching the same commercial. Too funny.
I hear the Soul Coughing team still cringes every time they hear that Ricky Martin ripoff of their Super Bon Bon riff.
