AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Posted by Infonistacrat on Monday, June 29th, 2009

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

GREAT LABELS OF THE UNDERGROUND: ROUGH TRADE RECORDS

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, March 21st, 2008

A couple days ago, I did a list of music form the SST label, the legendary west coast record label that had a huge hand in launching the American underground. Today, I thought I would give equal time to a legendary UK label, Rough Trade. If your a post-punk fan, then your aware of Rough Trade. But it also had a huge hand in the American underground scene as well, and was the home of one of my favorite 80’s act, Camper Van Beethoven, as well as one of the legends of Northeast Ohio, Pere Ubu. What I didn’t know, until I read more about them, was that despite the stellar talent in their stable, they actually went bankrupt in 1991, and after 9 years, came back just as strong.

Rough Trade started in 1978, and within a few years had the likes of Pere Ubu, Camper Van Beethoven, Blue Orchids, The Butthole Surfers, Galaxie 500, The Smiths, Scritti Politti, Beat Happening, the Feelies, and many more bands that today are considered mainstays of the 80’s post-punk and underground scenes. After coming back in 2000, they signed the likes of The Strokes, The Libertines, Babyshambles, Albert Hammond, Jr. and Arcade Fire. Not a bad lineup, if you ask me. So, enjoy the list! There are so many bands I left off here, I’ll definitely have to have a second volume.

  1. Aztec Camera – Somewhere In My Heart
  2. British Sea Power – Please Stand Up
  3. Butthole Surfers – American Woman
  4. Camper Van Beethoven – Wasted
  5. Dream Syndicate – That’s What You Always Say
  6. LiLiPUT – Split
  7. Mazzy Star – Hair and Skin
  8. Pulp – Underwear
  9. Stiff Little Fingers – Suspect Device
  10. The Bats – Afternoon In Bed
  11. The Fall – Hilary
  12. The Feelies – Paint it Black
  13. The Go-Betweens – Cattle and Cane
  14. The Strokes – New York City Cops
  15. They Might Be Giants – Birdhouse In Your Soul

Thanks mate, you’ve allowed me listen to some of the sounds from my distant past, and give some new stuff a turn.

One of the best places on the ‘net, well done.
