90′S BRITPOP, WITH AN ELECTRONICA TWIST
So today (Saturday, when I actually wrote this), I was watching the movie Singles. I know…I go from cheesy to 80’s flicks to semi-bad 90’s flicks. But you know, for some reason, I really like that movie, a lot. I think it has something to do with the fact I was the same age as the characters in the movie when it came out. I probably was more like the Campbell Scott character, Steve, that anyone else. In the 90’s, I was working for a horrible place, going to work everyday, dressed in a nice shirt, and a nice tie, dress slacks, etc. Underneath, I was always sporting a t-shirt that relayed my true feelings, like the Sex Pistols T I’m wearing today.
Anyway, that movie came out 16 years ago, and watching it, I found myself wondering what those folks in that apartment building would be doing today. What are they like now that they are in their mid-40’s, like me? Hard to say, but I doubt their dancing to Alice in Chains, or Chris Cornell. Maybe their me, writing a small little music blog, bringing the sounds of great music to the masses. Hey, I can dream can’t I?
Anyway, I found this album I ordered…actually a serious of albums, called “Best Album in the World…Ever!, Vol. 3″, and while it’s geared towards Britpop in general, it’s got a little feel of mid-90’s electronica to it. While I’m generally not a huge fan of electronica, some of it is pretty good. So I took that feel that the album has, and created a post from it. Enjoy!
I’m off on vacation this week…but fear not, the posts will continue. I’m busy creating the posts right now for the entire week. No, I’m not heading anyplace sexy, or warm. I’m going to one of my favorite cities in the world, Chicago, for a few days. It was my home from 1990 until 2001, and it’s a city I love to just walk around. I’ll be hitting the Art Museum, House of Blues, the Natural History Museum, as well as any number of bars. I may even have to hit Harry Carry’s for some sausage and peppers. Yum!
