AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

SLING IT LOW: GREAT PUNK 77 HITS, PART 2

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, January 25th, 2008

Thank god it’s Friday, thats all I can say. I found out yesterday I have a busy two weeks ahead of me. I’ll either be in New York or New Jersey next week, and then the week after takes me back to Pittsburgh, and this time I WILL be hitting Primanti Brothers! Those sandwiches sound epic. I just have to figure out how to get there. Thank god for Google Maps, I guess.

So, more great punk from punks prime. I never really used to think of Elvis Costello as punk, but I guess I can see it. I always just considered him a pretty talented dude who knew how to write some excellent songs. And I’m sorry, but I had to put some X-Ray Spex here. Polly Esther is just such an amazing talent. Starting a punk band at 16, putting a saxophone in it, and then becoming one of the most celebrated bands in the London scene is pretty impressive. If your not familiar with X-Ray Spex, they pretty much have one album they put out. It pure great, through and through, and worth the price.

Lastly, I’m throwing up Transmission by Joy Division. Hard to know where to put Joy Division…punk, post punk, new wave…they could do it all. Transmission is a magical song, but then everything they did was magic. The world lost a huge talent when it lost Ian Curtis. Speaking of that, does anyone know when Control is being released on DVD in the states? Because god knows, there aren’t enough Joy Division fans, or music fans for that matter, to justify a broad release here. So, I’m stuck waiting for it on DVD, so I can watch it. I’ve seen a lot of clips from it, and it looks amazing. The guys who play the band, and especially Ian, look spot on in their portrayal.

Enjoy the weekend. I’m having a very special visitor this weekend, taking a break from her studies to visit. We’re heading to something called Snowfest. Keep warm, and keep rocking!
