SLING IT LOW: GREAT PUNK 77 HITS

January 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment

It’s been a while since I posted any punk, so I thought, what the hell, lets give it a go. Of all the musical genre’s out there, I think old school punk is my favorite. My favorite Christmas present this year? A Sex Pistols t-shirt. Thats right…I am a old punk rocker. The most played album on my iPod is “No Thanks! The ’70s Punk Rebellion”. It’s an amazing collection of great old school punk. I was listening to it today at work, and decided that is would be a perfect theme for a playlist.

While I do like that early 80’s California punk, punk 77 is far and away the best. Both the New York and the London scenes are equally great in my eyes. Two minutes, staccato drums, and 3 three chords…thats pretty much all you need to make a great song. The Ramone, Buzzcocks, Iggy & The Stooges, Richard Hell and Nick Lowe, Pere Ubu and the Damned…these are the giants of punk. Without punk, there would never have been new wave, no college rock, no underground. Modern rock, at least the rock I love, all started with punk 77.

So happy Thursday, and rock them sock off. This should carry you through to Friday, and on to the weekend. Enjoy!
