Ok, so after giving you a steady feast of lesser known bands for the past week or so, I thought I would step this puppy up a notch and do a post of big hits from big bands. I also wanted todays post to have a little attitude to it, and I think I accomplished that goal very nicely. I’m telling you, I feel so lucky to have been in my late 20’s and early thirties when this stuff was hitting the air. From about 1992 until 1998 or so, it was pure heaven to turn on the radio, and let my ears feast on all this great music. And this isn’t even the best of it!
I always loved Angry Chair…it’s such a…well, angry song with a lot of dark attitude. Lane Staley and company were just such an awesome band, no two ways about it. But top to bottom, every song is just as great. The 90’s were kind of a dark decade for me, as I have alluded to. At least the middle few years were. But the music always kept me up. Driving around Chicago, listening to Q101, and enjoying life as much as I could. Even though it was a tough period, I would go back and relive it in a heart beat. Especially the part where I met my current wife.
That was a very good day!
Just a little insight into who I am. In 1996 or so, I worked for United States Cellular, as an engineer, stuck in a marketing department. The job sucked, the company sucked, and my boss REALLY sucked. I was in my early 30’s at the time. Back then, I used to shave my head close, wear a goatee, always sported my Doc Martins to work. Imagine Edward Norton in American History X, only a few inches taller, and 50 lbs more muscle. That was me. So, I was in another endlessly stupid meeting, not really caring, or even acting like I cared. When the meeting broke up, my boss asked me to stay behind to talk to me. He promptly told me I had a real attitude problem. Huh. Imagine that. What a moron. This guy was a first class tool who used to brag because they called him the Hitman when he worked at AT&T. his job was to lay people off. Nice. A month later, he told me to find another job, or I was fired. Fortunately, I got mad Unix skills, and got a job in the IT department.
About a year later, I left there, and came to work where I am now. Where I am now is probably the biggest IT company on earth. I could go anywhere in the civilized world, and people instantly know my companies name. As I was walking out my last day, this tool decides he wanted to network with me a little, you know, in case he ever needed another job. I just smiled, shook my head, turned my back, and walked away. Enjoy!

Glad you found your way out of the corporate hell-hole you were in. Music is the balm that keeps a lot of us sane. Many times it expresses things we wish we could do, but can’t legally.
That said, here’s an often overlooked group that packed a ton of attitude:

Curve - Wish You Dead from the CD Doppelganger (1992)
Thanks again for the great music.
