WARNING: MY 80′S OBSESSION CONTINUES!

January 14th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Ok, so from here on, you have been warned. I’m pretty sure that this week is going to be similar to todays post. Before going any further, though, I want to thank everyone who read this site last week. This site has been up since August first, and last week was my best week yet. Not in a financial sense…I really make about a nickel a day from the ads, so I ain’t doing this to get rich. No, it last week I had more visitors and more page views than any other week, and had my second best day ever. So again, thanks, and I hope you all keep coming back, and tell all your friends.

Ok, enough of that. Like I said, my 80’s obsession continues, and today I have some really good stuff for you. If all you know from the 80’s is the stuff you hear on the radio now, or the stuff you heard on MTV or radio then, I got some treats for you today. Starting with a band I didn’t really listen to a lot then (and honestly, still don’t), The Smithereens. I like their stuff a lot (though they never seem to have found a “sound”), and am familiar with them, but like I said, never really got into them. Then go straight into Peter Murphy, one of those vastly under rated artists of the 80’s. Do NOT miss that song…if you do, your missing a gem.

Oh, and to change it up a little, I put an acoustical version of The Motels’ Only The Lonely. I love the acoustical version, as it really shows off Martha Davis’ great, haunting voice. There is so much other good stuff here…The Fine Young Cannibals covering Elvis’ Suspicious Minds, Iggy’s Five Foot One, Faith No More, English Beat, Madness. I don’t know…it may be one of the better play lists I’ve ever created. Enjoy!

  1. The Smithereens - Yesterday Girl
  2. Peter Murphy - Cuts You Up
  3. Iggy Pop - Five Foot One
  4. Graham Parker - Love Gets You Twisted
  5. Roxy Music - Avalon
  6. Faith No More - We Care A Lot
  7. The English Beat - Save It for Later
  8. Trio - Da Da Da
  9. The Motels - Only The Lonely
  10. Laurie Anderson - O Superman
  11. Our House - Madness
  12. Fine Young Cannibals - Suspicious Minds
  13. Dwight Twilley - Looking For The Magic
  14. Concrete Blonde - Your Haunted Head
  15. The Feelies - Dancing Barefoot

I saw Dwight Twilley in the late 70’s or early 80’s at the Old Madame Wongs..
About the only great thing about growing up in L.A.The Music..
    Pass the egg rolls,please ;)

LA has always had a great music scene, no doubt about it. Me? Not the biggest fan of LA. My wife is a Cali girl, and would kill me if she heard me say that.

Seeing Dwight Twilley in person would be a GREAT great concert…and if the egg rolls have the hot mustard, I’ll take a couple myself!

I’m sorry it took so long to get back with an answer to the Concrete Blonde request…been a busy couple of days of travel and meetings and drinking. :-) Oops, did I say that out loud? I looked, and I don’t have Joey, but I will take a look around and see if I can find it somewhere.

Micheal, I used to be very familiar with that haze. I just wish I had all those brain cells back I killed in my teen and early 20’s years.
