The Music Blog of the Infonistacrat!

AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

THE GREATEST 90′S ALTERNATIVE MUSIC, PART 4

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Last day of the 90’s trip for me. And before anyone comments, no, the Sleater – Kinney song is not from the 90’s, it’s from 2000, but I identify them with the 90’s, and I love the song, and it IS my blog, so it’s here.

It seems that be the end of the decade the alternative scene had kind of mutated from the post punk, rocking grunge influences of the early years to something a lot mellower. I think it’s probably the huge influence of Brit-pop that started in the mid-90’s. But by the end of the decade, alternative radio just sounded a lot different. Not that it was bad, just a lot different.

Most of the songs here bring back huge memories of Chicago, and some of the best times of my life. One exception is Lullaby, which feels so much like Los Angeles…gritty, depressing, almost dirty. I’m not a huge fan of California, and certainly not of LA, though I have had some great times there. And it’s nothing personal, I’m just a mid-western boy who feels totally out of place there. But since thats the land of my wife, I make the effort to love it. Except Mickey Mouse ice cream sandwiches at Disneyland that are frozen solid. Those crack teeth. Like my tooth. Enjoy, and come back tomorrow…I feel some new wave goodies in the wind!

Thanks for all the posts, I always enjoy them. Hearing The Mighty Mighty Bosstones again reminds me of just how much I came to despise them, and deservedly so. Overrated and overplayed at the time, they have predictably and gloriously fallen off the radar.

Krasker, thats funny…I have bands that I feel the same way about, like Creed. The Bosstones are a band I never really followed enough to either like or not like. I think that one song is really the only one of theirs I really knew. Thanks for the comment!

5-star list…and that’s going some since I’m an 80’s sort of gal. Thank you for some great tunes I haven’t heard in ages!

Miss Parker, thanks again. I really love this list too, though I tend to like my 90’s music more on the grunge side. Just wait until tomorrow though…thats when I my true musical love comes out. I am, after all, an 80’s new wave boy!

  5. DC Says:

Thanks for the great music. Happy Holidays!
