SONGS BANNED IN THE USA!

December 6th, 2007 · 4 Comments

So, I thought the title would get you. So whats this all about? Certainly there would not be songs banned in the USA? Well, yes, as a matter of fact, there was a list drawn up, after September 11, by Clear Channel. Seems certain songs were banned from airplay. Ok, maybe banned is a strong word. What they did was to produce a list deemed inappropriate. And it was, you know, just a suggestion of song radio stations might want to not play. There in lies the rub in my opinion. To even suggest self censorship, or even imply it, is wrong. You don’t combat an act of terroism with an act of fascism. It’s never worked in the history of man. In fact, thats the kind of stuff that tends to turn people into terrorists. At least thats my simplistic take on things.

Anyway, the list is fascinating to read, and includes “all songs by Rage Against The Machine”. Go figure. You would think that in the aftermath of a day that changed the world in a not so nice way, you would let people be free to choose what you want to hear. I guess not. You can read the entire list here.

Strange! The REM-song was what was going around in my head when watching the towers collaps (live on TV).

Very intersting list thou’ - Thanks for hinting to that

Yeah, it was a weird day, for sure. I don’t think I really felt anything except shock. The REM song seemed to fit though, thats for sure.

They weren’t banned. And it’s not “fascism” to make a list of temporary suggestions of what may not be so appropriate at that time.
