ROCK AND ROLL WE SHOULD ALL KNOW

November 23rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

“You know her life was saved by Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Were truer lyrics ever written? I wanted to do a simple post like this for a long time. Nothing fancy, just a bunch of really good, old rock and roll songs that I really believe people should know. I know a lot about music, especially 80’s and 90’s music. But I also appreciate and love a lot of the old time rock stuff. For instance, in my CD collection, you’ll find James Brown, and Roy Orbinson. The Guess Who and Crosby Still and Nash. At one time or another I obsessed over the albums all these songs were released on, played them over and over, right along side all the great popular stuff. It was just another reason why some people (my wife included), call my tastes in music weird. I take it as a compliment, and I’m pretty sure thats the way she means it.

Of particular note is Dr. Hook…it was one record that all my friends at the time listened to, over and over. I can still sing the words to it all the way through 25 years later. And the Buffalo Springfield/Byrds/CSNY stuff…I spent the second half of the 80’s and the first half of the 90’s devouring every record they put out. Saw Neil Young in concert once, and Crosby, Still and Nash twice. Even saw David Crosby at a little forth of July concert in Schaumburg, IL, where he simple amazed the crowd.

I guess the point it is that sometimes, you need to step back and listen to some of this great old stuff. It makes the all the other music that much better. Long live rock and roll!
