Well, lets see. 1994. A pretty good year in music, especially if you were in Chicago, listening to Q101. In 1994, I had just graduated college the previous fall. In March of that year, I think it was, I took a job as a field support guy for a small software company in the Chicago burbs. Honestly, it was a great job for perfecting my Unix skills. The side benefit is that I got to drive like 100 miles a day through out the Chicago area, from Indiana to Wisconsin. At one time, I knew every great hogdog stand in the city, and trust me, there are some great dogs there! But beyond the hotdogs is that fact that I got to listen to the radio all the time. It was heaven.
There used to be a record store downtown called Rose Records. Actually, there were several stores throughout the area. Sadly, they are out of business. In it’s day, it was the greatest record store I ever been in. The people were cool, and smart musically, and the owner Jim Rose was basically a good guy. I did a lot of support for them. A lot of it was under the table, which my boss never knew about. All I can say is that I got a lot of great CD’s in exchange for some of the work I did. I also got some pretty great seats to R.E.M.’s Monster tour. I paid face value, but it was face value for like 11th row seats. And it was a great concert!
Ok, so enjoy flashing back to 1994, and look for more from that year soon…it was such a great year it deserves a few looks back. Me, I’m enjoying the great California sunshine!
