AN REM HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

Posted by Infonistacrat on Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m sitting here in the Detroit airport, waiting on my wifes plane to get in from Cali, and decided that instead of working, it would be better to listen to some music, write up a post, and have a little fun. I can only take work so long, and besides, everyone else in my [...]

SHUFFLING THE iPOD, DAY 3

Posted by Infonistacrat on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Last day in a hotel room for a few days…tomorrow, I am heading home. Sometimes, even with the roughest of jobs, you get a week where the stars align, the universe opens up, and everything goes well. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. And make no [...]

BACK TO THE FUTURE, I GUESS

Well, I had the new theme up for a bit, but there were a few tweaks I just could not get worked out. Mainly, I simply could not get it to work with Wordpress Stats. There were a few other things that kind of bugged the hell out of me, that I could [...]

HIDDEN GEMS OF THE 90’s PART 1

Posted by Infonistacrat on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

This is the next progression of last weeks Hidden Gems Of The 80’s post. This time, I take a look at the 90’s and try to find those songs that got a lot of play, but generally have been overlooked since then. Every now and then you’ll hear them played, but not nearly often enough. Today is hits from 1990 to 1994, tomorrow will close out the decade.

The top of the list today is, suprisingly enough, a rap song. If you have never heard Fear Of A Black Planet, you really need to get a copy. Not only on of the best rap albums of all times, but I would dare to say one of the top albums period. The raw emotion and energy in that album just blew people away at the time. Public Enemy was just straight up scary great on that album. After that, the two Cure songs are great. If not for the alternative/grunge movements, the 90’s potentially could have ruled by the Cure. To some people it was. Weezer’s Sweater Song is another great song.

The 90’s might be best remembered as a decade where there was just such a huge diversity in music. Today list shows just that…from the blues of Black Velvet to the Rap of 911, to Nivana’s grungy Lithium, the 90’s had a little something for everyone.

  1. Alannah Myles – Black Velvet
  2. The Cure – Pictures of You
  3. Public Enemy – 911 Is A Joke
  4. Counting Crows – She Talks To Angels Acoustic
  5. R.E.M. – Loosing my religion
  6. Roxette – Joyride
  7. Nirvana – Lithium
  8. The Cure – Friday I’m In Love
  9. U2 – Mysterious Ways
  10. Hey – Jealousy
  11. Spin Doctors – Two Princes
  12. Blind Melon – No Rain
  13. Smashing Pumpkins – Today
  14. Counting Crows – Mr. Jones
  15. Weezer – Undone (The Sweater Song)

Hi~ I am trying to find out what band had a guy named John Mihelich in it. The band was around in the 90’s and they did have a hit…They were a one hit wonder type of thing…
    Thanks ~

Allison, sorry to say I don’t have the answer. I did some research on John Mihelich, and all I could find was a professor in Iowa who authored a pretty cool paper on why Jimmy Buffet is so popular. That name does sound familiar, though, so in the meantime, I’ll keep looking!
