GROOVY BABY! THE 60′S ARE HERE!

September 14th, 2007 · No Comments

I have added a donation button to the menu at the right. I love doing this blog, and pay for all expenses from my own pockets. I run ads, but as anyone who uses adsense knows, average people don’t get rich from adsense. It helps cover a little of the hosting expenses, but not entirely. So I am doing a “mini” fundraiser for the next two months, when my hosting fees are due. Any help is appreciated. If you donate, I will specifically list you in the side bar, and add a link to where you want me too. This is a “dofollow” blog, which means that a link to your site counts in your page ranks. As my site grows (and it has been growing faster than I expected!), the link back grows in importance. So please consider a small donation! If you do donate, send me an email at [[jim] at [hometownproject.org]] and let me know, so that I can give you proper gredit and send some link love your way!

Who doesn’t love the 60’s? Musically, things just kind of exploded in a way that made the 50’s seem naive and cute. Seriously, who in 1957 could have forseen what was to come 10 years later? It was like night and day, and nothing would ever be the same again. Most of todays selection comes from the second half of the 60’s…honestly, to me pre-1965 rock was still very transitional and very conservative compared to the highly experimental nature.

In putting together todays list, one thing kind of reached out and struck me…I honestly never realized how many great hits Tommy James and the Shondells had. Seriously…how is it that these cats are not considered the greatest band of the 60’s? Oh right. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys…you get the point. Only in an era like the 60 could a hit machine like Tommy James be so far down the list.

I’m opening todays list with Eric Burden and the Animals…San Franciscan Nights is an example of great music that most people just have no clue exists. Throw in the Byrds (America’s Beatles), and the Moody Blues, and you got the basis of a great time. Add in the Stones, Steppenwolf and some Airplane, and you git it all going on. So dig it man, tune in and turn on baby!
