Nirvana

Nirvana needs no introduction from me, since there is nothing I can say that hasn’t been said before. It’s too bad the world has forgotten what it felt like to live in the early 90’s. Smells Like Teen Spirit blasted onto the radio and MTv with all the subtlety of a sledge hammer to the head. Soon, Pearl Jam was on the scene, as was Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and in Chicago the Smashing Pumpkins were bringing that vibrant scene into the light. The alternative music scene had broken, and suddenly, after years of hair metal bands without an ounce of talent, there was all this unbelievable. And at the front of it all was Nirvana.

This recording was done at the Reading Festival in 1992. Nirvana was at the height of their skill and popularity…not even two years later, Kurt Cobain was dead, and the alternative and grunge scenes kind of lost a little steam, and gave way to post-Grunge bands that just a little too polished. Listening to this takes me back though, and if I close my eyes, I can relive that bright shining moment in time when it was all good and music seemed to actually reflect what people were thinking.
