SONGS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT, VOL 3

Well, folks, this is it. This is is. I’m heading out tonight for a mental break, a desperately needed vacation. I was going to not do any posting for the week I’m gone, but I’ve changed my mind. I think I’ll try to post, even if they are smaller. We’ll see. In the meantime, enjoy the last day of music I consider essential to my survival. Really, these are songs that have a lot of meaning to me.

Just a couple thoughts on todays lists. First is the Dramarama song, Anything Anything. Definitely an under rated song, but a severly under rated band. But as great as that song is, the album it’s off of is even better. Cinéma Vérité is one of the sharper albums of the 80’s, and if you can find it, do your self a favor and pick up a copy of it. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Second is Jane Says. I much prefer the live version to the recorded version. It just has way more funk, more soul to it. It’s just a better overall version. The song has always been a fav or mine…to me at least, it ushered in the alternative movement of the 90’s.

The Counting Crows song has special meaning to me. In the mid 90’s, I had just gone through another brutal divorce. I had met a fabulous woman, and thought I was madly in love. But I carried a lot of baggage with from the 10 years prior, and by 1995, I was mentally beaten down and pretty much depressed. So I let her go. Walked away from the relationship. This song just kind of reminds how painful it was living without that woman. This year, I’ll be married to that woman for 12 great years. Without her, I can’t imagine life.

Last is the Jimmy Buffet song. I know, it seems out of place. But the song itself is a great story of over coming the tragedies of live, and making the best out it. It’s a song that kind of sums up my entire life….”Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I have a great life all the way”.
